“My Water Heater Tank Is Leaking! What Do I Do?”
Follow these 5 steps to prevent further issues until your Balcaen and Sons Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning serviceman arrives.
1. Turn the unit off
If you have a gas heater, turn your thermostat dial to OFF. If your water heater is electric, you’ll have to turn the power off at the breaker.
2. Shut off the water to stop the leak
The cold water shut-off valve is typically located to the right of your water heater. Turn it to the right.
3. Drain the water heater
Locate the drain valve on your water heater and attach a garden hose to it. Place the end of the hose over the floor drain or sum pit, and then open the drain valve – be careful: the water might be hot!
4. Break the vacuum
There may not be a lot of water draining from the valve – this is typical. Open a hot water faucet in your home and leave it open until the tank is drained (up to 1 hour). Then, you can close both the drain valve and the hot water faucet.
5. Call Balcaen and Sons Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning!
We’re at your service 24/7 for emergency repairs!
"Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness & Value"
We got up this Sunday morning to a cold house. Furnace was not working. Phone Balcaen & Sons to see if they could come out. The gentleman on the 24 hour helpline took my information and told me a service man would call me. Within 5 minutes, the service man did call and I told him about our problem, and he told me that he could probably be over in about an hour or so. His name was Mike B. He came over as he said, diagnosed the problem, and then told us a switch needed to be replaced. He was able to get the switch and was back at our house within a couple of hours and got the furnace going. I could not ask for a nicer and more courteous young service man. Thanks Mike B. for the wonderful service you gave us.
